Residential

Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering's wide range of skills and equipment enables us to deliver appropriate and effective foundation and excavation support solutions for residential projects ranging from simple detached housing to more complex high rise developments.

Stent House Foundations

The joint venture offers complete foundation solutions that are not exclusive to the housing sector, but the package benefits the construction of any low-rise development. For further information on Stent House Foundations please click here.

Low rise developments

Much of the piling requirement for housing development can be achieved using vibro stone columns or precast work. For stone columns clients are able to benefit from our powerful in-house manfactured vibro equipment and for precast work from our internal precast pile production facilities. Over 600,000m of precast pile are delivered each year by our permanent plants in Scotland and Nottinghamshire.

High rise developments

In urban environments, where foundation and excavation support is required for large high-rise developments on brownfield sites, more complex demands dictate the use of rotary bored and Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) techniques, where our track record is second to none. For sites involving restricted access or limited headroom, our range of mini and micro piling techniques and rigs are available.

Environmental sensitivity

As developments are often under construction close to occupied housing, we are mindful of the need to minimise noise, vibration and dust. Our testing division Testal can ensure all regulations are adhered to and disruption is kept to a minimum. In addition, government directives and good practice dictate an increasing focus on creative ways to minimise environmental impact in the disposal/re-use of spoil.

On time delivery

Successful completion of residential projects relies on contractors adhering to tight schedules. Our reputation for high quality on time delivery stems from disciplined processes covering:

  • close involvement of BBGE engineers during the early planning stages
  • expert risk analysis and management
  • early site review for accessibility planning
  • application of the most appropriate plant and equipment from a wide range, maintained in-house
  • the development of top class professional skills and experience amongst the workforce
